It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like....

Just in time for Christmas, the snow has arrived. Soft fluffy flakes have been falling steadily giving the town a beautiful wintery look with the lights and full moon reflecting at night and shimmering in the sunlight.
Soon children will be grabbing tobaggans and crazy carpets and heading for the hills.

Santa and Sleigh rides - As Popular as Ever

The Wolseley Lions Club combined with McLeans Cafe and brought Santa to the kids of Wolseley on Thursday night. The line of kids waiting to see Santa was buzzing with excitement. Dwight and Madeline Dunn snapped photos of the children, helpful Elves gave each child a goodie bag then all trundled out onto the street for a horse drawn hay-ride.
Laughter and song rang out through the town as the Christmas season was ushered in - full force.

Outdoor Rink Ready

The Wolseley Outdoor Rink has been flooded and is ready to go. Located beside the Fire Station on Water street, the rink provides a great opportunity to get outside and participate in the Canadian tradition of skating outside.
For many of us the location of the outdoor rink has some sentimental significance as it is located on the sight of the old indoor rinks. Nowadays, it is more noted as the place where the wonderful winter festival is held in February. So sharpen up the blades and I'll see you at the rink.

Let the Lights Shine

Christmas lights are being turned on all around Wosleley. Some of the displays are truly great, and all of them add beauty to the town at this time of year. The lights on the east side of the lake by the beach are especially pretty. I'm not certain whose idea it was to do light up those tress, but it was brilliant.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could expand that initiative to an entire "Lights Around the Lake" project.

The Spillway is running over

Walking over the Swinging Bridge or down Richmond street these days you are treated to the babble of the spillway as the waters of Fairy lake flow into the coulee beside our house. This is the second time this fall the spillway has run. When it occurred in September was a nice surprise. But again in November? Now that's a real bonus for those of us who enjoy the lake.

Old Timers Hit The Ice

The Wolseley Ice Kings have been hitting the ice over the past couple of weeks. Long time standouts like Rural Sports Hall of Fame member Dave Edgar and tireless community booster Ed Dureault are major motivators in the Old Timers efforts. And effort it is, as several of the players can make spirited rushes down the ice, but at this early point in the season attempts at real two-way play leaves much to be desired. The Ice Kings have several games are lined up, so if you want to see some hockey, not great hockey, but hockey nonetheless, come on out and cheer the Ice Kings on...they need it.

Promote Wolseley!

I grew up in the town and on a farm north of Wolseley. But, after many years living away I've moved back to this beautiful town with my wife Carla and four children. Our deep appreciation for the history and character of Wolseley combined with my maternal and paternal ancestoral links to the town made the move a logical choice for us. And Carla, who was raised in Ituna, shares my love for the lake and the wonderful buildings in Wolseley and we have been blessed with one of the character houses as our home.

But to just live here and enjoy the lake and the buildings is not enough. We want to see Wolseley, grow, prosper, and deify the trend of a struggling rural town.
And that is why we have started this blogsite. We intend on making this a forum to promote Wolseley.

We will post up-to-date information about Wolseley. We will publish photos and write about concerns and social issues important to citizens of Wolseley. And we will sell advertising space and links to businesses interested in promoting their goods and services to our readers.

So be sure to make The Wolseley Town and Country News one of your favorite places. And we'd be happy to send you notifications of updates to the blog so you're always tuned in to the happenings around town. Our website is www.wolseley.blogspot.com and our email is wolseleytowncountry@hotmail.com.

We'd love to hear from you and look forward to working together to promote Wolseley!
